She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, Burgin, Kentucky. She graduated from Bate School as the valedictorian of her class. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Kentucky State University and a Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky both degrees in business.
She taught at Bate School until integration. She was one of three black teachers to go to the fully integrated Danville School System. She retired after teaching in the Danville School system for 38 years.
She was survived by one sister, Beatrice Bowman Penman, and many nieces and nephews.
