Irvin A. George
ATLAS — Irvin A. George, 81, of 350 W. Saylor St., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, in his home.
Born in Aristes Jan. 16, 1933, he was a son of the late Bertrum H. and Mary (Herb) George.
He was a graduate of North East High School in Philadelphia.
He was married Dec. 31, 1954, in Media to Jerlene (Robinko) George, who survives.
Irvin was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served with Company L, 7th Infantry Regiment. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for Occupation of Japan.
Irvin was a self-employed painter. He then went to work for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 20 years before retiring.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a life member of Centralia American Legion Post 608.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joyce Devine, of Elysburg; a special niece, Maryann Macchione, and her husband, Edward, and their sons, Edward, Daniel and Steven and their families; two special nephews, Barry Kinsey and John H. George and his wife, Mona, and their son, Glenn, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Irvin was the last survivor among his siblings. He was preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters.
Graveside services with military honors in Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Aristes. Joseph J. Stutz Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, supervisor, has charge of arrangements. A guest book can be signed at www.stutzfuneralhome.com.
