She was born Dec. 4, 1930, at Mountain Home, Ark., the daughter of Samuel and Lillian Morse McMahon. She was raised in Arkansas.
She moved to Topeka in 1951. She worked at University of Kansas Hospital, Montgomery Ward as head cook, and St. Francis Health Center cafeteria in Topeka before retiring.
She married John Degan on Sept. 17, 1952, at Harrison, Ark.
Mrs. Degan is survived by her husband, John, of the home; her children, Johnny Lynn Degan, Salina, Pearl Hinton, Ann Lake, Frankie Degan, Marie Alcala, Walter Degan and Lillian Degan-Martinez, all of Topeka, and Carolyn Dodds, Meriden.
She was preceded in death by son, James Fisk
Other survivors include 27 grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Corkins, Topeka; many nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleo and Virgil; and two sisters, Rosie and Lorraine; two grandsons; and a granddaughter.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rochester Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka.
