Almost a century ago over in Berne, Switzerland, Casper and Katherine HASLER started life’s journey together. After a few years, they crossed the waters with their small children and settled in the wilderness at the place that is now called Taylor Township. It was in this home that John HASLER was born June 10, 1851. He died August 10, 1934, aged eight-three years and two months.

As he grew to manhood he had little advantage of schooling, but learned the stone mason trade under the direction of his father. Today in Bloomfield and over the country stand many stone structures that he helped to erect.

On December 25, 1877, he was united in marriage to Nancy CHANEY, daughter of Samuel and Kiziah {FLATER} CHANEY. Near their childhood homes they established their home and here the following children were born: Quincy HASLER, at home; Olaf HASLER, of Mineral; Mrs. Inez MOFFETT, Mrs. Nellie LYNN and Orville HASLER, of Park, who survive the father. The deceased are: Mrs. Eva MULLIS, Mrs. Gladys VEST, Miss Ota HASLER and four infants. He leaves twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, al present except a grandson, Gerald MOFFETT, who is in the United States Army and a granddaughter, Mildred MULLIS, who lives in Illinois.

The mother of this family passed away December 2, 1902, leaving the father to care for the children. This he did until they were all married, except Quincy, who has remained with his father for fourteen years to care for and comfort him in his last days. As he was the oldest of the children, he helped the father to care for the younger children and also help raise two grandchildren, James and John VEST, who were left without a mother at the age of three years.

Mr. HASLER was a charter member of the I. O. O. F. lodge at Mineral for twenty-six years. He loved this work and was a regular attendant as long as health permitted.

He suffered affliction for several months, but was tenderly cared for by the children and their companions who remained with him until the end.

He also leaves a twin sister, Mrs. Rosanna MULLIS, and one brother, Ed HASLER, and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss such a good upright citizen.
