Born in Woodhaven, NY, he resided in Old Bridge since 1960.

He was a computer operator for ER Squibb in East Brunswick for 12 years, and then worked as a custodian for the Old Bridge Board of Education for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

An Army Veteran of WW II, he was a member and Past Commander of the Catholic War Veterans Post 16 in Woodhaven, NY. He was also a member of the VFW Post 133 in East Brunswick.

He was a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Old Bridge, and was the Shillelagh of the Year in 1997.

He was a communicant of St. Ambrose RC Church, Old Bridge, and was a member of the parish Holy Name Society.

He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Conway Costello; a son, Charles G. Costello, Jr, a sister, Marie Costello, and four brothers, Edward Costello, James Costello, John Costello and Rev. Raymond Costello, MSC.

Surviving are a son, Raymond Costello of South Amboy; two daughters, Kathleen Mary Costello Birch of Brick, and Patricia Ann Costello of Old Bridge; a brother, Vincent Costello of Dix Hills, NY; nine grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Theresa, Sean, Colleen, Katie, Marykate, Shannon and Charlie; and four great grandchildren, Dylan, Mikhaela Grace, Kerilyne and Derek.
