James Listus Rothrock was the eldest of five known children of John Alexander Rothrock (1842-1910) and his second wife, Sarah Spraker Reed (1841-1923), who married 08 Apr 1873 at Effingham, Effinham County, Illinois. John was first married to Maranda Emerline Shore (1840-1872) on 22 Aug 1865 at St. Louis Crossing, Bartholomew County, Indiana with whom he had four known children.
Listus married Rosa Mumford (1876-1943) on 20 Nov 1895 at Clark County, Illinois. Listus and Rosa were the parents of three known children, namely:
1. Altie Russell Rothrock (1897-1937)
2. Alma Ellen Rothrock Callahan (1901-1971)
3. Sallie Eunice Rothrock Hudson (1909-1997)
In 1900 the parents and Altie (Alta?) were living at Clark County, Illinois. In 1920 the parents and all three children were living at Casey Township, Clark County, Illinois. In 1930 the parents, Altie and Eunice were living at Casey Township, Clark County, Illinois.
