Former Tampa Newsman Dies
LOS ANGELES (AP)-- Owen Callin, a Los Angeles Times copy editor and former wire service reporter, is dead at 53.
Callin died Tuesday in a hospital here.
Born in Fostoria, Ohio, Callin graduated from Ohio State University and began his journalism career on the Lorain, Ohio, Journal in 1936. Later he was employed by the Ohio State Journal in Columbus, The Tampa Times and the Toledo, Ohio, Blade.
In 1943 he came to California with International News Service and later joined the Los Angeles Herald-Express.
Callin moved to the Times in 1963, as a member of the metropolitan desk. His widow, Vivien, and a son, Thomas, survive.
