AUSTIN -- M. Jannette Plager, 85, of Austin, a retired teacher, died Saturday (April 1, 1995) at Midway Hospital in St. Paul.
M. Jannette Cation was born Feb. 6, 1910, in Spencer, Iowa. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1927, graduated in the top of her class at Iowa State College in 1932 and then taught in Melvin, Iowa, schools for a year. On June 18, 1933, she married Carroll Plager on her parents' farm in Spencer and they made their home in Austin. Mrs. Plager taught at Austin High School and Austin Junior College. She was a member of First Congregational Church, St. Olaf Hospital Auxiliary and Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Jane (Mrs. John) Jones of White Bear Lake, Minn., Janice (Mrs. Norm) Strasma of Kankakee, Ill., Sue (Mrs. Doug) Nelson of Falcon Heights, Minn., and Sally Ponce of Toronto, Ontario; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded her in death.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Congretational Church in Austin with the Rev. David W. Groenemann officiating. The body was cremated. Burial of the ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
