She was born March 11, 1928, in Springfield, to Carl and Amelia Stach Kochmann. She married Wilbert D. Alwerdt on Nov. 15, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1988.
Survivors include two sons, Donald (Susan) Alwerdt of Franklin and David (Manon) Alwerdt of Palm Harbor, Fla.; four grandchildren: Jessica (Greg) Wilcox, Jeremiah (Melissa) Alwerdt, Krista Moffett and Brittany (Michael) DePhillips; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Kaitlyn Alwerdt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Douglas Alwerdt; grandson, Cody Alwerdt; two brothers and six sisters.
Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She retired from the State of Illinois after 35 years of service. She volunteered at Ronald McDonald House for 18 years and also at Lutheran High School and Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed visiting with family, traveling and outdoor activities.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Darrell Debowey officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
