MARENGO - Irene M. Ovaska, 79, of Marengo, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2002 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born April 23, 1923 in Marengo, the daughter of Oscar and Lizzie (Luttinen) Andersen.
Irene was a lifelong resident of Marengo She was united in marriage to Toivo J. Ovaska on March 22, 1941 in Minersville. She was employed at Munsingwear and Ashland Precision for many years. She was a member of the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church of Marengo.
She is survived by three sons: Ronald (Mary Lou) Ovaska of Homestead, Florida, Allan Ovaska of Gurnee, Illinois, and Randy (Paula) Ovaska of Eau Claire; a daughter Karen Ovaska of Ashland; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toivo; her parents Oscar and Lizzie Andersen; a son Ryan Ovaska; an infant granddaughter Valerie Ovaska; two sisters Florence Dapper and Ruth Suni; and two brothers, Russell and Reynold Andersen.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13 at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church in Marengo with William Jouppi officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Marengo. Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
