Not long after, she moved to Contra Costa County, California and for 30 years was a nurse at Mt. Diablo Medical Center. She met and married the love of her life, Gene Ross and they married 1950. The lived in Concord, CA until about 1975 when they moved to Walnut Creek where she lived at her death.
Mel and Gene are the parents of 6 daughters and 3 sons. Daughter Judy (Hamilton) passed in 2004 and Malinda "Mindy" in 2011.
Services for Mel were held at St. Stephen's Catholic church in Walnut Creek and her ashes scattered at sea.
