John Daniel Corcoran, Sr. attended Christian Brother College (actually a high school) and received a two year associate's degree in bookkeeping from St. Benedict's College in Atchison. He went to work for Wyatt's Hardware for $1.00 a day and stayed there for two years. He moved to the St. Joseph Livestock Exchange in 1922 and continued to work there until taking medical disability/retirement in 1956. During the depression everyone's salary was reduced twice by 10% in order to avoid layoffs. From the mid 1920's until 1939 he lived at the Knights of Columbus Lodge on 10th Street in St. Joseph. In 1932 he took a train to the Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. In 1834, he paid for Perpetual Care at St. Columba's Cemetery, Conception, MO for the graves of his grandparents, John & Mary Corcoran born in County Cork, Ireland.He met his wife as a result of his interest in horseback riding. A pair of his riding boots remain with his son. The wedding picture of John and Emma was taken at the Louis Vienhage farm 5 miles north of Easton.
