He was raised in the Bunch community by his grandparents Charlie and Annie Canoe. He married Caleen Asbill in 1974 and to this union 4 children were born; Jeanetta, Robin, Donivan and Holly.
While Gene was in good health he worked as a forklift operator for 20 years at Stilwell Foods. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, He enjoyed going to their ballgames when he could. He always enjoyed his nieces and nephews coming to visit and his home was always open to them. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and her family group, DayStar and listening to them sing. He loved hunting, fishing and watching westerns on T.V. When able, he enjoyed raising Rottweilers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and one nephew; Ritchie Canoe.
Gene is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife; Caleen Riddle of the home in Bunch, OK, 4 children; Jeanetta Sellers and husband Tom of Sallisaw, OK, Robin Chaffin and husband Matthew of Bunch, OK, Donivan Gene Riddle of Sallisaw, OK, Holly Riddle of Bunch, OK, 6 granddaughters; Kyndel Kent, Katlynn Kent, Karlee Sellers all of Sallisaw, OK, and Kailee Riddle of the home in Bunch, OK, Zoiee Duncan of Bunch, OK, Jaylee Chaffin of Bunch, 1 step grandson; Jordan Chaffin, 2 great grandchildren; Sydalee Grace Kent and Sawyer James Doublehead, 4 brothers; Leon Carey of Marble City, OK, Albert Vann of Big Springs, TX, Richard Canoe and wife Doris of Stilwell, OK, Darrell Riddle and wife Lisa of Bunch, OK, 6 sisters; Lillie Mae Byrd and husband Sammy of Bunch, OK, Virginia Parra and husband Barney of Bunch, OK, Marie Starr and husband Mike of Stilwell, Carolyn Diver and husband Leroy of Tahlequah, OK, Marilyn Perez of Stilwell, OK, and Bernice Bruner of Stilwell, OK. Other relatives, many friends and a host of nieces and nephews also survive him.
Funeral services at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at New Life Church, Stilwell, OK with Bro. Max Ford and Bro. Mike Glass officiating. Interment followed at Bunch Cemetery, Bunch, OK under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
