The attached picture with information about his family is from the 1789 bible (privately held) of his mother and his date of birth is listed as January 8, 1799. A different page in the same bible lists his name as Lewis Hemon and his date of birth as January 10, 1798. The inscription on his tombstone lists his age as 57 years, 6 months and 1 day which calculates to a birth date of January 8, 1799.

The attached photo with detail of the land once owned by Lewis Hermon is from an 1858 map of Rock County which is located in the Wisconsin State Historical Society archives in Madison, Wisconsin. His property was just SW of Janesville along the S. County Road. Hanover Road runs E-W at the top of his land and it is still there today. Even though he died in 1856, the map clearly shows the location of his estate. His sons Lewis Henry and Deloss owned the parcels immediately to the west of his.

His obituary below is from the Janesville Weekly Gazette and Free Press but it is from a clipping in the family bible and the exact date it was in the newspaper is not known.

OBITUARY

Died at his residence in the Town of Rock, on the 9th last, Mr. Lewis Comstock, aged sixty-five years.
Mr. Comstock was a native of Otsego County, N. Y., in which County he resided until the year 1831, when he removed to Cayuga County in the same State. After residing here nine years, he emigrated in the year 1840 to Wisconsin, and settled near the same place where he died.
He had long suffered from Rheumatism. Early in this spring he had a severe attack of Pneumonia which reduced him very much and from the effects of which he had but partially recovered, though able to be about.
On the third of July he took a severe cold followed by a well-marked remittent fever which yielded readily to treatment. But on the subsidence of the fever inflammatory Rheumatism set in affecting first the lower extremities, afterwards the arms, and hands, and by metastasis the membranes of the brain, producing Coma and death.
In earlier life he connected himself with the Baptist Church and remained a consistent member of the same until his death. He had greatly endeared himself to a large circle of relatives and friends, by his kind and generous disposition. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss with the full assurance that their loss is his eternal gain.
