OELWEIN — Lester L. Jarchow, 87, of Oelwein, died
Saturday afternoon, Jan. 19, 2008 at Grandview Healthcare
Center, Oelwein, after a short illness.
Funeral service will be 10:30
a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Zion
Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with
the Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 4 to 8
p.m. on Tuesday at the Jamison-
Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein
and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday
at the church. A military memorial
service begins at 7 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home conducted by the Oelwein
American Legion Ross Reid Post 9.
Lester La Verne Jarchow was born on
Aug. 11, 1920 at Sumner, Iowa, the son of
John E. and Ida D. (Meyer) Jarchow.
He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1938.
Lester was united in marriage to Fontella Ruth Voshell on
Nov. 15, 1942 at West Union. He served in the Army during
World War II in the European Theatre. Lester was a longtime
Oelwein resident and worked for Oelwein Chemical
Company for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the
Arlington American Legion. Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing
and gardening.
Lester is survived by his wife Fontella Jarchow of
Oelwein; one son Dennis (Monica) Jarchow of Cedar Falls;
two grandchildren, Jackson and Jenna Jarchow; two brothers,
Dale Nadine) Jarchow and Paul Jarchow, both of
Oelwein; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 'his parents, two brothers,
Vaylerd and Alfred and an infant .sister! Marie.
