Obit: Cedar Rapids Gazette, Sept. 9, 1944 - Joseph H. Merrill, 85, died at his home, 724 Vernal street NW, at 9 p.m. Wednesday after a long illness. Born in Ohio Dec. 24, 1858, he had lived in Cedar R apids for more than 80 years. In addition to his wife, Jennie, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Earl Kelley, Springdale; Mrs. Earl Schminkey, Des Moines; and Mrs. William E. Ackley, Cedar Rapid s. Also surviving are three brother Sam and George Merrill, both of Cedar Rapids, and Leonard Merrill, Quincy, Ill.; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. Service s will be held in the Beatty chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. S. E. Dooty will officiate and burial will be in Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at Beatty's
