Aaron was born April 13, 1824 in New Jersey to Samuel and Rebecca (Hatfield) Bonnell. He married Susan Adelia Irons about 1848 and had seven known children. Aaron was a carpenter and joiner in his early years, then became a farmer later in life.
He enlisted as a Second Lieutenant August 26, 1862 in Company H of the 141st Pennsylvania Infantry. He resigned his position September 22, 1862. I have to wonder here if he didn't become ill and resigned as he died many years later of "lingering consumption."
