David R. Alexander Jr., 101, member of the Greatest Generation, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Dr. Bobby W. Cook officiating. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood. David was born to David R. Alexander and Elizabeth Lawrence Alexander in Bonham on July 1, 1912. After graduating from Bonham High School, he was in the wholesale grocery and food brokerage business for 52 years before retiring. He served his country for three years in World War II with two and a half years in the European theater. He was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International. David married Nancy McClure in Bonham in 1939 and they enjoyed over 64 years of happiness together until her death in 2004. David was fun-loving with a great sense of humor and positive attitude. He loved life, his family and his church. Survivors: Son, Bill and wife, Cheryl; grandsons, Nicholas and Collin and wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren, Madison and Tanner; nieces, Paula Eggert and husband, Randy, of Sand Springs, Okla., and Pam Hays and husband, Roger, of Seguin.
