PEORIA - Elmer M. Alderman, 92, of Peoria, formerly of Fremont, Iowa, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Christian Buehler Memorial Home in Peoria.He was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Fremont, Iowa, to Jesse W. and Lulu E. King Alderman. He married Lois N. Miller on Aug. 24, 1945, at the Willard Street United Methodist Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. Elmer was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1938 and from Iowa State College in 1952. He worked for 33 years as an engineer at Caterpillar in Peoria, before retiring in 1983. Elmer had been a resident of Peoria since 1966, and was a member of University United Methodist Church.Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Lois; a son, Larry A. (Karen) Alderman of Freeport, Ill.; three grandchildren, Mark (Charlene) of Pearl City, Ill., Matthew (Natasha) of Monroe, Wis., and Mario of Blue Island, Ill.; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Oshiahanna, Yazzmine, Draven, Cataleya, Emmalina Rose, Zacharia Jack and Mario III.He was preceded in death by a by his parents; a brother, Albert (Neva); a sister, Thelma (William) VanderWaal; and a grandson, Zechariah Coulthard.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, Iowa, with the Rev. Chris Schmidt officiating from the Potters House Church of Monroe, Wis. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson American Legion Post 3. The visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to Buehler Memorial Home in Peoria, Ill.The family of Elmer would like say thank you for the love and compassion of all of the staff who took care of Elmer for the years that he was at Buehler Home.
