Mary Street was born on the 12th of May 1810 to Samuel Street and Elizabeth Scholfield at Manchester, Lancashire England. Mary was the fourth of eight children. She was small and had a dark complexion. As a young girl she worked hard carrying large baskets of clothes on her head to deliver them. Mary Street married Thomas Bateman at age 19 on the 18th of August 1829 at Manchester, Lancashire, England. Mary was baptized in the L.D.S. Church in approx. 1836. Mary sailed with Thomas to the United States in approx. In 1840 they decided to emigrate to America. The Ship Lehi Philadelphia arrived in New Orleans in April, 1840. Mary, Thomas and Family were the first LDS Members to land at New Orleans. In 1841 Mary and Thomas moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. Thomas, a master brick layer helped build the Nauvoo Temple. Mary and Thomas moved Augusta, Iowa after four months. They settled on the Skunk River in the Sprin of 1843. Here they purchased a farm and brickyard. In 1844, the LDS Church members were called back to Nauvoo. Mary was sealed to Thomas Bateman on the 28th of January 1846 in Nauvoo, Illinois. Later they returned again to Augusta, Iowa where Thomas found work. Mary Street age 40 and Thomas Bateman were Utah pioneers in the James Pace Company of 1850. Mary Street and Thomas Bateman settled in West Jordan, Salt Lake County, Utah in 1852. Mary Street and Thomas Bateman's children include;

There was a dispute over the land Thomas Bateman owned in England. Thomas Bateman returned to England to settle some business. On the way back to the United States, Thomas drowned accidently in the Atlantic Ocean and was buried on the 29th of November 1852 in the Atlantic Ocean. Mary was 42 years old with 9 children at the time of Thomas' death.
In 1855 Mary Street Bateman and her family moved to Wight's Fort (Near current 90th South and Bangeter Highway) for protection from the indian uprisings. Mary was a midwife. She walked many times from West Jordan to Sandy, a distance of six miles to see her patients. Mary Street Bateman married Lewis Wight of Wight's Fort. Mary Street died at age 81 on the 4th of March 1891 at West Jordan, Salt Lake County, Utah. Mary Street was buried on the 7th of March 1891 at West Jordan Cemetery, West Jordan City, Salt Lake County, Utah.
