COLUMBUS, KANSAS: Josephine R. Crain, age 80, passed away at 6:45 am, Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Medicalodge, Columbus, KS following an illness.
Josephine was born July 11, 1933 in McCune, KS. Her parents were Marion and Hazel (Carver) Wilson.
She had lived in Cherokee County KS all of her life.
She graduated from West Mineral High School with the Class of 1952.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Columbus, KS. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid baseball fan.
For 8 years, she worked as a clerk for the Cherokee County Treasurer's Office. She then began working at various insurance agencies, including the Hartley Agency where she worked for 25 years. She also helped several people as their tax preparer. Then in her spare time she helped her husband work on the farm.
She was first married to Clyde Lee "Fuzzy" Burton on Oct. 23, 1953. He passed away Oct 8, 1976.
She then married William Crain on Feb 7, 1980. He preceded her in death on Oct 29, 2009.
Her sister, Corrine Codin also preceded her in death.
Josephine is survived by one son, Clyde Lee Burton, Columbus, KS; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Burton, Columbus, KS; two grandchildren, Justin Burton and Darcy Burton; two step-daughters, Janie Ruddick (husband, David) Columbus, KS and Jeanne Johnson (husband, Randy), West Mineral, KS; and four step-grandchildren, James Dale Johnson, Jathan Hall, Jared Hall and Angelina Johnson; and several nieces and nephews, including one ornery niece, Doris Richardson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, rural Columbus, KS.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, March 31, 2014 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Columbus F F A, Borland Cemetery, or Greenlawn Cemetery, in care of the funeral home.
