CECELIA GOOCH
Cecelia Gooch, 103, of Topeka died Thursday, June 16, 2005.
She was born in Salina on January 28, 1902, the daughter of George and Agnes Hinnenkamp Ross. When she was two, the family moved back to their farm five miles south of Sabetha. She graduated from Sabetha High School in 1919.
Cecelia moved to Topeka in 1922. She was employed for several years as a secretary for State Oil Inspection. She also worked several years with Breisford, Gifford & Hardesty Accountants. In 1965, she retired after a number of years as a secretary/bookkeeper with the M. B. Salisbury Co. After retiring, she worked a few years for the Holsapple Construction C o.
She was a member of holy Name Catholic Church, Holy Name Alter Guild and Daughters of Isabella Circle No. 503. St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and World War I No 1113 Auxiliary.
Cecilia married David Chenault Jefferys on June 8, 1945. He died Nov. 1, 1973. She married Norman J. Gooch on Oct. 1, 1977. He died Sept. 12, 1996.
A stepson, David L. Gooch, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a step grandson and a step granddaughter. Cecelia will be greatly missed by her many friends, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha.
