Long-time area resident Vesta Hicks went home to be with her Lord and Savior passing away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Vesta was born on the farm in Winneshiek County, Iowa on February 22, 1921 to William Wallace Headington and Martha Olson Headington and was one of nine children. She attended rural schools and graduated from Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa in 1939.

She married Raymond Nesset in 1942 and one son, Larry, was born from that union.

In 1957 she married Roy Hicks and moved to the Kerrick area where she was very active in the community. She was actively involved in the Kerrick Community Church (formerly the Union Presbyterian Church) Ladies' Aide, Vacation Bible School, Riverside Cemetery board, and the Bruno Township board. In later years she moved to Moose Lake and then to Sandstone. At the time of her death she was living with her daughter and family on their farm near Sandstone.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her brothers Gerald Headington, Wayne Headington, Reuel Headington, and her sisters Vivian Arneson, Evelyn Lockwood, Muriel Cronin, and Martha Hansen.

Vesta is survived by one sister, Audrey Wohlsdorf, children Larry (Joan) Nesset, Marion, IA, Russell (Gail) Hicks, Pine City, MN, and Ruth (Keith) Carlson, Sandstone, MN, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Vesta will take place at Danforth Community Chapel, 57092 Wolf Creek Road, Bruno, MN on Saturday April 13, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. with the memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Peter Dobson officiating. A light meal will be served immediately following the service. An inurnment with the family will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: Grindstone Lake Bible Camp, Harvest Christian School in Sandstone or Riverside Cemetery in Kerrick.
