Wilmina Gay Camp Mayes, 94, of Charleston, formerly of Vinton, Va., passed away on September 3, 2011. Born April 2, 1917, she was the last surviving daughter of Charles and Vesta Hudnall Gay.

A 1936 graduate of Charleston High School, Wilma worked in the offices of Libbey-Owens Ford before moving to Virginia in the early fifties. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell-Atlantic before retiring.

She was preceded in death by her son, William J. Camp of Dublin, Va.

Wilma is survived by grandchildren, Susan Neilson Camp of Richmond, Va., Gerald Camp and Rebecca Garnett of Dublin, Va., Aaron Mayes of California, Jacob Mayes and Rachel Roberts of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was a beloved grandmother and aunt with a wonderful and very unique sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and going to the beach and to the mountains for picnics. She found beauty in the wonders of nature and also in the Bible. Wilma brought much joy to her family and will be remembered with laughter as well as tears.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2011, at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
