Marcella Marie "Marcie" Ayars Castle Maughon Whittier
1935 - 2014

Marcella Marie "Marcie" Ayars Castle Maughon Whittier passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22nd, with her loved ones by her side. Born in Juanita, North Dakota on February 21, 1935, Marcie was the youngest of 5 siblings. She moved to Eugene in 1969 with her first husband Robert W. Castle and raised 2 sons.

Marcie was very involved with First Baptist Church, Camp Harlow, and Bible Study Fellowship. She worked tirelessly for both the Billy Graham Evangelical Association and Franklin Graham through Samaritan's Purse up until one month ago when she was too weak to continue.

Marcie touched many lives with her incredible compassion, Christian spirit, sense of humor, and her infectious smile. With a happy spirit, she always put others' needs before her own without complaining. She was a true servant of Christ. Marcie travelled throughout the world representing Samaritan's Purse as they did the Lord's work through Operation Christmas Child and other endeavors. As a result, she forged incredible friendships and lasting bonds with people from all over the globe and all walks of life.

Marcie is survived by her sons Bob Castle, Jr. and Greg Castle, as well as her daughter-in-law Belsai Castle. Her grandchildren, Abigail and Samantha Castle and Jonathan and Zoe Kiemel were always a joy to her. Marcie's first husband, Robert Castle, Sr. preceded her in death in 1991. Her second husband, Grover Maughon worked alongside her for Samaritan's Purse prior to his death in 1999. In addition, her third husband, Gordon Whittier, died shortly after their marriage in 2005. Marcie had the uncanny ability to make all her step-children and their grandchildren feel as if they were her own children. She was a true matriarch of many families brought together as one.

Marcie had one mission on this earth, to spread the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A celebration of her life will take place at 1:00 pm on April the 14th at First Baptist Church in Eugene, Oregon. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Camp Harlow and/or Samaritan's Purse as this would have been Marcie's preference.
