GREAT BEND - Edward A. Bender, 62, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at the Central Kansas Medical Ctr. He was born May 21, 1936, in Hays to Edward E. and Mae L. (Eberle) Bender.

He married Opal L. Koeller on June 18, 1998, in Enid, Okla. He was a former lineman for Marlette Coach Co. He was a farmer and owner-operator of Sports Acres Trap Club,Great Bend. He was a Merchant Patrol and trap shooting instructor at Barton County Community College. He had been an area resident since 1960, coming from Russell. He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, was treasurer of the Elks Lodge, was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Duck´s and Quail Unlimited, Kansas Trap Shooting Association, Amateur Trap Shooting Association, and Ellinwood Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Steve R., El Reno, Okla;. a daughter, Cynthia A. Vratil, Midland, Texas; his parents, Russell; and six grandchildren.

Services at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Warren Stecklein officiating; burial in the Great Bend Cemetery.
