Frank R. Ivy, age 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his Savannah, Ga., residence with his family at his bedside, under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Susan Ivy McCrory of Charlotte, N.C. in 2009.
Frank Ivy was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Clay County, the only child of the late Tome Gates Ivy and Opal Jasper Ivy, After graduating top of his class from Siloam High School, he attended Hines Junior College before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1950. After his military service, he enrolled in Mississippi State University and was a member of the first graduating class of the newly formed school of forestry, graduating in 1957, and remaining a lifelong bulldog fan.
After a successful career, he retired in 1996, as Regional Procurement Mgr. for Stone Container Corporation. He was a member of the American Forestry Association and the Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Louisiana Forestry Associations. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, an avid boater, fisherman and hunter, an an enthusiastic Republican. he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Savannah, Ga.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly Sansing Ivy; one son, Robert Ivy of Savannah, Ga.; one daughter, Sharon Ivy Wess and husband Scott of Washinton, DC; Also surviving are grandchildren: Andy Hale, Ben Hale, Sarah McCrory, Helen McCrory, Emily McCrory, Geoffrey Ivy, Gates Ivy and Jeremy Ivy.
Frank Ivy will be greatly missed by his canine companion Sissy.
Funeral services were Saturday. Oct. 13, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Hopkins officiating.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial took place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Ga.
