OBITUARY: Riser Funeral Home, Columbia LA
Funeral services for David Leon Johnson age 68 of Columbia will be held 10:00 am Friday March 28, 2014 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Riley officiating and Bro. Elgin McFadden delivering the eulogy. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery west of Columbia. Visitation will be on Thursday March 27, 2014 at the Riser Funeral Home in Columbia from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
David Leon Johnson was born on October 25, 1945 at Transylvania, LA to the union of his parents Leon Johnson and Lena Mae Adams Johnson, and he passed from this life on Tuesday March 25, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Johnson served in the Fourth United States Army during the Vietnam War having received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar Republic of Vietnam. He was a member of Banks Springs Baptist Church and loved his country with all his heart. He was extremely proud of his service to his nation.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Leon and Lena Mae Johnson; by his brothers: Lonnie Johnson, Charles Johnson, Jerry Johnson, and L. C.Johnson; his sisters: Dorothy Johnson and Marie Dewitt; his son: John David Johnson; and his nephew: Wayne Mobley.
Survivors include his beloved wife: Mrs. Shirley Ainsworth Johnson of Columbia; his children: Malinda Chapman and husband Mike of West Monroe, Cynthia Scarbrough and husband Ronnie of Pollock, and Amanda Littleton and Steve Winstead of Grayson; his siblings: Clifton Johnson and wife Dorothy of Haughton, Marion Johnson and wife Shirley of Bastrop, Billy Johnson of Waskom, Texas, Earnestine Odom and husband Elton of Gordon, Alabama, Eloise Litton and husband Danny of Shreveport, Ima Jean Hostetter and husband Homer of Shreveport, and Lula Bell Suire and husband Uland of Monroe; his beloved grandchildren: Amber Richardson and husband Lee, Christopher Barclay, Brittany Scarbrough, Shelby and Samuel Chapman, and Trenton Gavin Littleton; and great-grandchildren: Cayden, Avery, and Maddox Richardson.
Pallbearers include: Mike Johnson, Nathan Ainsworth, Kenneth Ray Vanlandingham, Steven Hatten, Ron Hayes, and Otis Kimmons. Honorary pallbearers include: Jared Finley and Buddy Thornhill. In lieu of flowers any planned memorials should be made to Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of ones choice.
