Israel was the oldest child of Matthew Graves and Hannah Morton.
Married: Lydia Wells (daug. of Lemule & Lydia Scott Wells) in 1786 in Whatley, Mass. Lydia was born in 1766 in Hatfield, Mass .and died between 1840-1850 in Ohio or WI.

Israel, a farmer, moved to New York by 1797 where son Obed was born. According to U.S. censuses Israel lived in Norwich, Chenango, New York 1800-1830; then Ashtabula, Ohio 1840; and then moved to Avon Township, Rock, Wisconsin between 1840 and 1850, where he lived till his death.

Israel was grandfather of both Cynthia Graves and Orlando "Perry" Graves, cousins who married each other. Aurilla "Cynthia" Graves (Daniel Graves' daughter) married her cousin Orlando "Perry" Graves (Obed Graves' son). Daniel and Obed were both sons of Israel Graves .His farm in Avon, Rock County , WI. was about 20 miles from Roscoe, IL. where Israel's son Daniel lived for a time (1850 census).

The 1858 Avon plat map shows the Graves family 40 acre farmstead in Section 13, SW quarter of the NE quarter.

Suggested edit contributed by Ardyth Butler: The correct birth place would not be "Whately, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA", but rather: Whately, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, British America. According to RootsMagic: Franklin County wasn't created until 1811, and the United States wasn't created until 15 November 1777.
