Charles Beal was born in Bavaria, Germany, July 26, 1838 and died June 11, 1924 at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Willard Beeman at Palmer, Nebraska.

Aged 85 years, 10 months and 16 days.

He came to the United States in 1840, with his parents, who settled in Allentown, Pennsylvania. A few years later they moved to the state of Illinois.

On September 26, 1886 he was married to Miss Ellen Frye, at Centralia, Illinois. She preceded him in death several years ago.

In 1904 he moved to Nebraska with his family and they have resided here since that time.

To this union five children were born, four sons and one daughter, one son dying in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his departure, one daughter, Mrs. Sallie Pitchford of Fredricktown, Missouri, three sons, D. E. of Centralia, Illinois, W. C. of Fullerton, and Fred H. of Fullerton, fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Wm. Beal of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and many close friends.

He has recently made his home with his granddaughter, Mrs. Ollie Beeman, of Palmer, who cared for him in his last illness.

He served three years in the Civil War, having enlisted in Co. C. 11th Illinois Volunteer Infantry August 15, 1861, and received an honorable discharge August 15, 1864 in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

He has always been a very loyal and patriotic citizen, and he made a very commendable record as a soldier.

He was always kind to those with whom he associated, and always ready to help the sick and needy.

The funeral was held at the home of his son, W. C. Beal at Fullerton. Services were conducted by Rev. C. A. Kercher. Interment made at the Fullerton Cemetery.

(A long recap of action of the Eleventh Illinois Infantry followed.)
