JOHN R. SUYDAM.
John R. Suydam, formerly a well-known dry goods importer, died in his carriage yesterday morning while driving from his country-house at Bay Port, L. I., to Patchogue. The cause of Mr. Suydam's sudden death was apoplexy. His funeral will take place to-morrow at the Memorial Church in Saville, L. I. He was bron in this city in 1809 and was the descendant of an old Knickerbocker family. His father was one of the leading New York merchants of the last century. After a common-school education Mr. Suydam entered into the firm of Suydam & York and did business in Pearl st, for a number of years. In 1851 he retired from active life, and in 1857 he married Miss Annie Lawrence, the oldest daughter of J. Lawrence and a sister of Judge Lawrence. He leaves a son and daughter.
