Sergeant First Class Abele was a member of Company H, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Unsan, North Korea on November 5, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His brother, Sergeant Robert P. Abele, was Killed in Action on November 30, 1950.
