Frank P. Basham, age 90, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Kobacker House in Columbus. He was born June 27, 1923, in Calloway, Virginia, to the late John Clifton and Della (Wood) Basham.

A WW II Army Veteran, Frank was a gunner in the 141st Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion 9th Army in the Battle of the Bulge under General George Patton where he was awarded three Bronze Stars.

He married the love of his life, Mabel (Reffitt) Basham on March 1, 1944 while still on active military duty. As an OTR truck driver, Frank retired from Matlack Trucking after driving for Humes Trucking and John Shultz.

Frank was a member of the American Legion Post 92 of Utica. He enjoyed providing fresh vegetables for his family from his garden and was always tinkering with something. In his words, he was "too busy to have a hobby."

He is survived by his son, Raymond and daughter-in-law Debra Basham of Mt. Vernon and his sister, Eva (Wilber) VanHouten of Galena.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel as well as brothers: John, George, Bill, Franklin and sisters: Ora, Mary, Delsie, Beverly, Annie and Oakie..

Friends may call 3 to 5 pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR's 3 at 61, Sunbury. A graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday in Cheshire Cemetery with Rev. Bernie Basham officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the Delaware County Veteran's Association.
