BLAIR, HARRISON WESTBROOK

BLAIR, HARRISON WESTBROOK of Mountain Brook died Sunday, November 10, 2002 after a long illness.

He was born in Tarrytown, New York in 1911.

In 1933 he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and in 1936 an MBA from Harvard Business School. His fraternities were Alpha Chi Sigma and Beta Theta P1.

He came to Birmingham in 1937 to associate with the Tennessee Coal and Iron and Railroad Company. His working career was in the Industrial Engineering Department of U.S. Steel. He retired as assistant to the Chief Industrial Engineer of the Fairfield Works.

Mr. Blair's retirement years found him very active in community affairs particularly Mountain Brook where he served on the Board of Zoning Adjustments, City Council and Assistant Treasurer. He has been on the blood collection committee of the Red Cross, Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Regional Committee on Transportation. He served many years on the Board and Executive Committee of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

His memberships include Harvard Club of Birmingham (past president), The Club, Country Club of Birmingham, Association of Iron and Steel Engineers and Independent Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Blair is survived by his wife Anne Carr Blair, his two children, Gould Blair and Florence Blair, daughter-in-law Vicki Grayson Blair and grandchildren, Harrison W. Blair II, Virginia Blair Schmidt of Charlotte, NC, and Walter Blair all of Birmingham. Two stepdaughters also survive him, Pamela Arthur of Gig Harbor, WA. and Carrlyn Clay of Scottsdale, AZ.

Visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Graveside Services directly following at 2:30 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to the Emmet O'Neal Library, 50 Oak Street, Mountain Brook, AL 35213 or your favorite charity. Johns Ridout's Soutside directing. (205-251-5254)
