Mary A Rollins.

Shared marker says "wife of JE Rollins"whose name is engraved on the other side and states he was born June 1 1817 and died Nov 27 1887.

The death date and calculated birth year on this marker for Mary A Rollins corresponds to Mary Richards who was married to Edward J Rollins who was born June 1 1817 but died November 27 1895 not 1897, according to military records.

His military issue marker is right next to this one as seen in the photos and has his correct name.. On the memorial entered for J.E.Rollins click on the top photo for a clear frontal view of EJ Rollins military marker.

Unable to find records for any JE Rollins with the birth and death date on this shared marker. It is therefore probable that this JE Rollins was meant to be EJ Rollins. Edward died some 24 years after Mary; Mary was his first wife but he married 3 more times -- each time he was a widower. It's possible that whoever commissioned her marker did not know much about Edward but knew it was a joint plot, and transposed JE for EJ.

Mary went by "Polly" which is a nickname for Mary, like Molly. Some records formalized Polly for her to "Pauline". She was identified as Mary Ann in marriage record of daughter Lucinda, as Mary in 1860 Census and marriage records of daughter Alvina and son Barton, as Mary Ellen Richards in death record of son Barton, as Martha in death record of son John, and as Polly Richards in death record of daughter Lucinda. Name on headstone is Mary A. Rollins.

There are family legends that Polly was Native American, but no evidence to support that have been found. Her race is entered as white in all records. There is a consent to marriage for her to Edward signed by her father William Richards.

There seem to be several markers in this cemetery that have birth/death dates that are incorrect, names misspelled or initials wrong at least with the Rollins. Unsure if this was due to family misinformation or a mistake by whoever the monument company was at the time.
