She was born Sept. 25, 1903, in Uniontown to Matthew Diethelm and Ida Johnson Diethelm. Her father was a house painter in Craigmont where she grew up. She graduated from Craigmont High School and attended two years at the Lewiston Normal School. She taught in rural school houses around Craigmont for 12 years.
She married Warner H. Cornish in Moscow in 1929. They moved to Boise, where he was employed by the State Liquor Board. She attended Boise Business College, taking accounting classes. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and they lived on bases in New York, Washington D.C., and Key West, Fla.
While in Washington, she worked as a junior clerk-typist and was in charge of correspondence at the supply department in the Navy yards. In Key West, she was a price clerk for the rations board.
They eventually returned to Moscow in 1946. In 1948, she was employed by the University of Idaho as an accountant with the physical plant, where she worked for 18 years before retiring in 1966. Her husband also worked for the UI as director of family housing. He died in September of 1983.
She was a member of the Rose Croix Chapter 58 Order of Eastern Star in Winchester. Her close companion of the last several years was James Lyle of Moscow.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at the Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Members of the Rose Croix Chapter 58 Order of Eastern Star officiated.
