Daughter of Lee Roy Knight Mullins and Lulu Belle (McCandless) Mullins. Sister of Marjory and Lee Roy Knight Mullins Jr.

United in marriage with Roy "John" Leverne Barker on Nov 08, 1941 in Nevada. I am not sure but believe they eloped. The Barker family were very happy for them since they all loved her so much. July 1942 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp., becoming a pilot and going over seas that same year. He flew missions over Germany and France. Died Jan 19, 1945 flying his 104th mission (Should of been sent home on after the 100th), leaving her a young widow at just 22 years of age.

Later Lois was contacted by Roy D. Bartley. He'd been a pilot also, not only serving with but had been a good friend of my Uncle John. He had received flak over France causing him to have to make belly landing on Aug. 4, 1944, and had been reported missing in action. Uncle John had written to his parents telling them that he had not crashed and that he was either a prisoner of war, or was being hidden by the French. I no longer remember in the stories I've heard about it, which it turned out to be.
As I said before, once Roy Bartley was back in the states, he looked up Lois, thus one thing led to another and they married in late 1945. To this union 3 sons and daughter were born. Most of their married life they lived in Muncie, Indiana.

Both of her parents passed in the 1970's in Bakersfield, Kern, California, but I have not found their place of burial to link them, as of yet.

Lois is my beloved Aunt and name sake. Uncle John had given her the nick name of "Loy". Which was given to me as a middle name, name I've gone by since birth.

Here is a poem Uncle John wrote to her not long before he was killed;

To My Loy,

"Distance is but a mortal thing
A thing to see, to touch, to know
A word with a realistic and practical ring
And is treated and abided so!!"

But though a universe of unseen things
Like feeling, thought, and cherished dreams
Heaven miraculously brings
"Love, Devotion"- immortal themes
Against a background of starry nights
Or laughter from the echoes of happy hearts
Burning desire with censored heights
Heavens gift-Natures art!-

Beneath all this will live your desire
As will mine, and both will stay
And live as Immortals with unquenched fire
Though our mortal distance is far away!
