He was born on May 20, 1929 to Charley and Mary Alice Dills Reid. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Floyd, Jack, Bobby, and Johnny; and sister, Edith.
George was a U.S. Navy Veteran during which time he served on the USS Juneau. He was also a member of VFW Post 891.
He was survived by his wife, Joyce Reid; daughters: Janet Bishop of Memphis, TN, Patricia Graves of Candler, and Diane Hipps of Woodfin; sons: David Reid of Clearwater, FL, and Michael Reid of Bethel; and a special nephew, Keith Green of Dallas, TX and Johnson City, TN.
Funeral services were held 3 P.M. Sunday, March 23, 2014 in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial was held at 12 PM, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Anders-Rice Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
