She was born in Detroit, Michigan of Swedish and Norwegian immigrant parents, Bryon and Jesine Bruce. Mrs. Maynard met her future husband, deceased Col. Harry L. Maynard, while based in Ipslang, Michigan as a stewardess for American Airlines. Harry and Marie married September of 1953 and she began her life as a loving mother and military spouse. She accompanied her husband to several postings around the United States. Mrs. Maynard was active in the Officers' Wives Club and charities at bases they were stationed. After Col. Maynard died in December 1980, she retired to Melbourne, Florida. She was very active in the Patrick Air Force Base Golf Association, St. Andrews Townhome Home Owners Association, and a member of Advent Lutheran Church.
She will be missed dearly by those who loved her: her three children, daughter Susan Maynard, sons Harry and Richard Maynard; daughter-in-law Carol Ann Maynard; grandchildren Chelsie M. Morgan, Jacob Basso and Catherine B. Tucker; great-grandchildren (who lovingly call her "GG"), David Morgan and John Morgan; sisters Fern Grommet (deceased), Betty Kenny and Janet Hope; brother Robert Bruce; the Maynards of Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, and Ohio; nieces and nephews, friends and golfing partners.
Visitation will be held at Advent Lutheran Church's Suntree Campus, 7550 North Wickham Road, Melbourne Florida on April 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery where she will join her husband on a date determined by the officials of the cemetery.
