Reverend James Payton Hall, age 86 of Knoxville, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, September 26, 2020.

Jim was born July 23, 1934 in Louisville, KY to Joseph Leo Hall and Ruth Brown Nuttall Hall. His deceased siblings include John Rhea Hall, Joseph Daniel Hall, Joseph Leo Hall, Jr., and Mary Janet Hall. His surviving sister is Martha Jean (Otis) Warren. Jim has two daughters: Sue Esleck(Fred) of Birmingham, AL and Lisa Daley (Sean) of Louisville, TN. Jim was known as "Popsie" to his grandchildren, Emily Esleck, Anna Michele Daley (deceased) and Brandon Esleck.

Jim graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in 1961. He and his wife of 63 years, Frances Gentry Hall (deceased), provided over 40 years of ministry to Presbyterian Churches in South Carolina (Douglas Presbyterian Church in Lancaster), Tennessee (First Presbyterian Church in LaFollette, Fairmont Presbyterian Church and Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Knoxville) and West Virginia (Second Presbyterian Church of Huntington). During their retirement, Jim and Fran were blessed with lasting relationships with many members of these congregations.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the men and women from Elmcroft Senior Living, Acti-Kare and UT Hospice who loved and cared for Jim. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church ministry of your choice.

Due to pandemic concerns, the family invites you to remember Jim and celebrate his life and ministry using some of his favorite scriptures and hymn lyrics in your personal moments of reflection and prayer: Micah 6: 6-8; Psalm 103 1-5; Psalm 121: 1-8; Romans 8: 31-39; II Timothy 4: 6-9a; Revelation 22: 17-20; "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name", "Great is Thy Faithfulness", "In Christ Alone", "To God Be the Glory" and "Spirit of the Living God".
