Obituary, The Alpena News (Monday, June 7, 1926):
ADOLPHUS ARPIN DIES AFTER RESIDENCE OVER HALF CENTURY

The death of Adolphus Arpin, aged 73, occurred Saturday afternoon at his home at 113 East Clark street. He had been ill the past year with cancer.

Mr. Arpin was a resident of this city for fifty-four years, coming here in 1872. He was born in Lanoraie, Canada, July 11, 1852. For years he was an employee of the Gilchrist lumber company, and at the time that plant ceased to operate, he held the distinction of being its oldest employee.

Surviving are the widow and six children, Mrs. Mae Arpin Friday of Elyria, Ohio; Mrs. Charles Kennet of Detroit; Mrs. Leroy Kucheurither of Cleveland; Ralph J. Arpin of Detroit; and Mrs. Elden Boynton and Edgar A. Arpin of this city.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at nine o'clock from St. Bernard's church, Rev. John McDonald officiating. Interment will be made in Holy Cross cemetery.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Adolphus married his second wife, Eda Sophia Raddatz, on September 27, 1893 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Alpena, Michigan. The marriage record gives Adolphus' parents' names as Norbert Arpin and Rose Caire.

Adolphus lived at 113 E. Clark Street from at least the 1889 Alpena city directory until his death. Given that much of the north side of Alpena was destroyed by a fire in 1888, it is likely that he himself built 113 E. Clark (or it was built for him).

The Gilchrist lumber mill, mentioned in Adolphus' obituary above, closed in 1921, at which point he would have been 70 years old or nearly so. His occupation was listed in directories as sawyer--one who operated a saw.

Adolphus was buried on June 8, 1926.

"Polk's Alpena City and County Directory, 1905-1906," lists: Aprin, Adolphus, sawyer, res 113 E Clark

"Polk's Alpena City and County Directory, 1922," lists: Arpin, Adolphus (Eda S), lab, res 113 E Clark
