DAVENPORT — Martha Marinan, 96, of Davenport died peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Kahl Home in Davenport. She was surrounded by family members at the time of her passing. Per Martha's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport, followed by prayers and a time for sharing. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society in honor of Martha's love of animals.

Martha Jane Pence was born June 20, 1917, in Frankfort, Ind., the only child of Wilbur and Laura Etta (Sharp) Pence. They preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to John J. Marinan on Sept. 23, 1939, in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1961.

Martha had been a receptionist at the Medical Arts Building for 30 years, retiring at the age of 81. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Church and the Altar and Rosary Society at church.

Martha cherished the time spent with her family and especially her grandchildren, grea- grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was a huge Notre Dame fan, never missing a football game on TV. She also loved music and dancing, and playing bingo with her friends at Silvercrest.

Those left to honor her memory include her three beloved children and their spouses, John and Janice Marinan of Hartland, Wis., Mary Jo and Jerry Merry of Davenport, and Stephen and Cindy Marinan of Dixon, Iowa. Martha had eight grandchildren, Jay and Joel Marinan, Leslie Heim, Lisa Ewoldt, Craig Merry, Todd and Mike Marinan, and Traci Cox. Martha also had eight great-grandchildren. Martha also is survived by her nephew, Bill Hull, his wife, Robin, and their three children, Brian, Katie and Alex.
