OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church for Luke Charles Baquet, 97, with burial in Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum in Opelousas. The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.

Mr. Baquet, a resident of Opelousas, died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Senior Village Nursing Home. He was a native of Carencro and a long time resident of Opelousas. He was also a member of the Opelousas Elks Lodge No. 1048. Mr. Baquet owned and operated the Main Street Liquor Store for 29 years. He then retired and enjoyed fishing and being with his family.

Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Roma B. Chachere and husband, Gerald Chachere Sr. of Opelousas, and Mrs. Bonnie B. Wyble and husband, Wayne Wyble, of Opelousas; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;and four nephews, Bennett, William and Jack Baquet, all of Ville Platte, and Jerry Baquet, of Lafayette.

Mr. Baquet was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Emmett Marie Sonnier Baquet; his second wife, Nora U. Baquet; his parents, Joseph Edmond and Heloise Guilbeau Baquet; two brothers, Frederick Baquet and George Baquet Sr.; two sisters, Edith and Amy Marie Baquet; and one nephew, George Baquet Jr.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
