Eleanor L. Prather, 94 years old, of Aurora, IL, formerly of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Edwards Hospital Naperville, IL. She was born April 26, 1919 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Robert and Esther (Johnson) McGowan, living in Lake Villa, IL for 37 years, moving to Lake Barrington Shores for 21 years, and settling in Aurora in 2008.

Eleanor was a member of the Lake Villa Garden Club, Lake Villa Women's Club, VFW Women's Auxiliary, the Lake County Promenaders, the Antioch Football Moms, the Luv Ewes at Good Shepherd Hospital, Midlane and Barrington Shores Golf Clubs, and a former member of the Lake Villa United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed playing bingo, painting, ceramics, flower arranging, wood-working, cheering on the Chicago Bulls and Bears, and was the "luckiest lady" playing cards. Eleanor attributed her 94 years on earth to laughing every day at something.

Eleanor had worked as a ballroom dance instructor, and met the love of her life Benjamin T. Prather at the Chateau, they wed on June 10, 1944 and he preceded her in death on October 5, 2008.

The family would like to thank the Edward Heart Hospital Nursing Staff and the Family Hospice Group for their help and caring during this difficult time.

Survivors include: three children, Janice (Mike) Sterbenz of Minneapolis, MN, Nancy (Vince) Radosta of Parker, CO, and Craig (Debbie) Prather of Antioch, IL; 11 grandchildren, Jaime (Cori) Wallis, Matthew (Lisa) Sterbenz, Brooke Sterbenz, Jared (Danielle) Gleason, Alec Gleason, Kristin, Annalyse, and Sarah Radosta, and Brett, Collin, and Marina Prather: seven great-grandchildren, Charlie, Josh, Jack, and Matt Wallis, Rune Sterbenz, and Lainey and Emma Gleason; her son-in-law, Tom Gleason of Mt. Zion, IL; and a brother, Robert McGowan of Niceville, FL.

In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Gleason and a sister, Florence Leseman.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Christian Life Fellowship Church, 41625 N Deep Lake Rd., Antioch, IL 60002.

Interment will be Monday in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL at 11:30 a.m.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL 60002.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Antioch Community High School c/o 40819 Gridley Dr., Antioch, IL 60002 are appreciated in Eleanor's memory.
