HENDON MURDERED - Guin's Marshal Shot Down in Cold Blood
At Guin on last Monday evening town marshal W. A. HENDON was shot and killed by JACK GUIN, a boy about 17 years old.

The facts in regard to the shooting as given the Times are about as follows; On Sunday last the marshal attempted to arrest some of the boys for drunkenness and disorderly conduct and this caused GUIN to make some threats to the effect that the marshal could not arrest him, and that if he attempted to do so he would kill him. On Monday following GUIN went into the store of Mr. PRATT in which HENDON, who was a jeweler, kept his tools, and began cursing. HENDON told him to keep quiet that he was drunk and if he didn't go away he would arrest him. GUIN called the marshal a liar and repeated his threat that he would not be arrested. The marshal then started toward GUIN who made a motion to draw his pistol when the marshal struck him with a stick. Quick as a flash GUIN drew his pistol and fired, the first shot failing to take effect. He fired again, and the bullet struck the marshal just under the left eye. The wounded man lingered until eight o'clock Monday night when he died.

GUIN was taken in custody by the parties present and placed under guard, but no warrant was sworn out against him and during the night he walked off from the guards and escaped. HENDON leaves a wife and three children.
