Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington. Memorials are preferred to East Catholic School.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Matthew Weddingfeld, Nathan Simpson, Jeff Whiteley, Joshua Whiteley, Ashlee Simpson, Kristin Weddingfeld, Katie Weddingfeld, Melissa Ricketts, Amy Weddingfeld, Megan Weddingfeld and Jaime Weddingfeld.
Mary Sue was born on July 10, 1928 at Wayne, Nebraska to Ferdinand and Mary Julia (White) Schmiedeskamp. She grew up in Walthill, Nebraska and graduated from Walthill High School in 1946. She received her teaching certificate from Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne. Mary Sue married Merlyn Weddingfeld on June 20, 1950 in Walthill. After their marriage they lived in Pender, Nebraska until moving to Hartington in 1957. She taught country school in the Hartington area, at Holy Trinity Elementary School in Hartington and for over 25 years at East Catholic Elementary School in Bow Valley, Nebraska, retiring in 1990. Mary Sue obtained her Bachelor of Education Degree from Wayne State College in 1975. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Guild and was a former member of the Hartington VFW Auxiliary Post 5283 and the Hartington Golf Club. She loved to play bridge, belonging to four different bridge clubs. She enjoyed reading, golfing, going for walks and tending to her flowers. Time spent with her family was most precious to her.
Mary Sue is survived by 6 children and their spouses, Mary Fran and Michael Courtney of Las Vegas, NV; Rita and Rob Simpson of Overton, NE; David Weddingfeld of Las Vegas; John and Sarah Weddingfeld of Blue Hill, NE; James and Deb Weddingfeld of Yankton, SD; Ray and Kelly Weddingfeld of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Schmiedeskamp of Adel, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merlyn on March 5, 2010 at the age of 83, 2 sisters, Rhea Rossiter and Clare Summers and 2 brothers, Max and Ray Schmiedeskamp.
