Vern G. Calvin, 59, died of a heart attack at the veterans hospital in Portland Sunday, July 21.

Mrs. Calvin was born August 12, 1880 at Locust Grove, Manoing county, Ohio. At an early age he united with the Baptist church at Greenford, Ohio. He came to Oregon in 1909 and in 1910 to Elliott Prairie, where he lived for several years., later going to California where he was married to Miss May Lenon of Monitor on November 19, 1917 at Eureka, California. They, with their baby daughter Edythe, returned to Monitor in 1919 and have since made their home there.

He was a Spanish war veteran, having served in the Marine corps in that war and spent three years in the Phillippine islands during the Phillippine insurrection.

Survivors include his widow, daughter Edythe, sisters Mrs. Ada Judd, Mrs. Nora Graham and Mrs. Myrtle Haupin of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania; brothers Blaine and Otis Calvin of Eureka, California and Linn of Youngstown, Ohio.

Funeral services were held from the Ringo chapel at 2 p m yesterday with Rev. A. Foltz officiating. Interment was in Belle Passi cemetery.

Solos were sung by Mrs. A. Foltz acompanied by Mrs. Jimmie Chepelle. Pallbearers were J. A. Van Cleave, P. J. Jensen, Henry Hansen, Reed Conyne, O. H. Hopper and S. C. Hinds.
