Carl Loyd Carroll, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Carl was born September 2, 1940 in Durham County to the late Lloyd Julius Carroll and Edith Wilder Carroll. He graduated from Broughton High School in 1958 and joined the US Army National Guard in 1964, honorably serving his country for 29 years. Carl retired from NC State University where he worked in genetics research for 37 years.
Carl is survived by his wife of 47 years: Bobbie Bowling Carroll; son: Christopher Loyd Carroll and wife, Linda of Zebulon; grandson: Austin Lloyd Carroll; brothers: Stan Carroll (Ann) of Knightdale and Randy Carroll (Terry) of Cape Carteret; sister: Jan C. Frazier (Douglas) of Wake Forest, numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Union Chapel Baptist Church, 2437 Zebulon Road, Zebulon, NC 27597. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home of Christopher and Linda Carroll, 10736 Staghound Trail, Zebulon, NC 27597.
