James William Moss, 84, of 1201 Amherst Ave., Altavista died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Autumn Care of Altavista. He was the husband of the late Opal Bennett Moss for fifty-eight years. He was born July 26, 1929 in Grayson County, a son of the late Isaac Henderson Moss and Fannie Bennett Moss. He was a member of The Church of God of Lynchburg, former pastor of churches in Virginia and Florida, and a retired employee of Klopman Mills. James enjoyed playing guitar and teaching others to play as well. He is survived by a son, Jimmy Moss and his wife Patti of Lynchburg; a daughter, Paula Ould of Altavista; a brother, Robert Moss of Springfield; a sisters, Clara M. Emerson of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Tiffany M. Martin, Dallas B. Moss and Zachary J. Moss; three great grandchildren, Isaac Martin, Bennett Martin and Aspen Moss. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Burnett; and two brothers, Paul and John Moss. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at The Church of God, Lynchburg by the Rev. Joseph Hill, Rev. Paul Horton and Rev. Jerry Anders with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
