Robert Harl Alexander, 85, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Jackson, Ms
Alexander was born April 5, 1928, in Gulfport, MS., to Harry Artz and Edna Whitfield Alexander. He was a 1946 graduate of John Rundle High School in Grenada, MS. Thereafter he attended Tulane University where he studied architecture.

Entering the United States Navy in 1946, he lovingly and proudly served his country around the world as a Naval Aviator completing flight training and being commissioned in 1950. He served as a Navy Carrier pilot for three years aboard the USS Coral Sea, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and USS Midway. He completed his Naval service as a flight instructor in Kingsville, TX, when he was honorably discharged from the Navy as a Full Lt. USNR in 1954.

In 1954 he returned to Grenada, MS, as a Professional Photographer. He was President of the Professional Photographers of MS-AL in 1960. As one of the founders of the Ole Miss Conference of Professional Photographers, he was gratified that the organization has lasted over fifty years and has benefited countless photographers. Alexander taught photography classes and actively took pictures well into his eighty sixth year of life. An innovative and creative thinker, he enjoyed sports and computer technology, authored a biographical book, Mississippi Moments, and actively communicated with friends from all over the United States. Quick with a story or interesting tidbit, he enjoyed learning about new ways of perfecting his craft until his last days.

In 1948, Alexander married Anne Wesley Artman who passed away in October, 2007. He is survived by children, Angela McInnis (John), Pearl, MS; Leslie Banks (Randy), Carrollton, MS; Harry Alexander (Sharron), Oxford, MS; six grandchildren, Amy Craig, Lauralee Gann, Andrew Banks, Ben Morris, Whitney Bolen, and Hayden Alexander and six great grandchildren.

His special friend, Marianne Donahoe, wears his U.S. Naval Aviator wings and was a constant source of encouragement and friendship to Bob and his family during the past two years.

Visitation will be held from 9am-9:45am on Wed. March 19, 2014 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with funeral services following the visitation at 10am in the chapel of the funeral home. Graveside Services will be held at 2:30pm on Wed. March 19, 2014 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis, MS.
